Portfolio Booklet

This project was birthed from a final for my Publication Graphics class. The assignment was to use the skills we learned in class to create a product from start to finish. Everything from designing the files, printing, running the equipment, and binding it all together. The layout and design of the project was completely up to the student.

Goal: The overall goal, for me, was to create a portfolio based on something iconic that already exists in the industry. I chose to base my project on the classic paper sample booklets that are standard in the industry. I ended up basing my project on a book from Neenah Paper.

Target Audience: Future Employers

Problem Solving: The biggest challenge was the machinery. The two digital printers we have at the school were being very dramatic during the course of this project. One was slipping out of registration and the other was eating black toner. Luckily, I was able to have my files ready to print the second one was fixed. I then ran into the issue of scoring. The original plan was to score on a Duplo MultiFinisher, but the one I had access to was not pulling pages through properly. This meant doing it all on the Plotter Cutter. I tweaked my file to do all the scoring and cutting on the plotter. Thankfully, the Duplo had been down when I did my prototype files, so I already had a good base for doing it all on the plotter. Once these issues were resolved, I was able to get the final project done.

Time Spent: About 20 hours total
